🚨 MASON UPDATE August 19,2019:

This last week Mason has had two blood transfusions and a doctors appointment on Friday. The doctor explained that Mason is in a “holding pattern” until we hear back from Hamilton. They will then be going to Hamilton to begin Mason’s stem cell transplant. This process includes killing Mason’s existing immune system and replacing it with a new one. There is a 50/50 chance his body will receive or reject the stem cell transplant. The Appleyard family is scared, they are tired, but most of all they are hopeful. Thank you so much for the continued support on this journey.

Original Post August 1,2019:

We are fundraising on behalf of Mason Appleyard and his family. Mason is 21 years old and a very proud graduate of Belle River District Highschool. Mason is hard working, eager to please, helpful, tender, and funny. Mason is well embedded in the community of Belle River through his years as a Noble, and as a member of Abode Respite Services Inc. Mason is an animal enthusiast, and an artist- Mason loves to create. Mason makes our community a better and more inclusive place by always putting his Ability first! In early June, Mason became very unexpectedly ill, and had to spend a month and a half going through a variety of tests- including two bone marrow biopsy’s. Mason has recently been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes and will be required to go through very intensive treatment including chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant over the next few months. We will be hosting an “Open House Fundraiser for Mason Appleyard- The Super Human” as Mason affectionately refers to himself. After the last few months, and everything Mason has lived through - he has certainly risen to the “Super Human” status. This event will include a bbq, a silent auction fundraiser, and community blood drive in honour of Mason’s journey on Saturday September 21, where the proceeds will go to support Mason and the Appleyard family through his treatment that will be done out of town. If you are able to assist in any way to help in this event is extremely appreciated by all those who know and love Mason. We would appreciate volunteers and/or silent auction items to add to baskets. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
